German Cockroach
The German Cockroach adult is ½” to ⅝” long and medium brown in color. The nymphs (babies) are nearly black with a single light stripe running down the middle of the back. German cockroaches are typically found in kitchen and bathroom areas. Behind appliances that produce heat (refrigerator, dishwasher) or other crack and creves areas such as behind baseboards or inside cabinets.
Oriental Cockroach
The female Oriental Cockroach can be up to an 1½” long with the male being around 1″. The adults are very dark brown or nearly black. Nymphs and adults have similar habits and are associated with decaying matter found both indoors and out. They can be found in yards, dumps, crawlspaces, mulched areas, leaf piles, and landscape retaining walls.
Brownbanded Cockroach
The Brownbanded Cockroach is one of the smaller cockroach species, rarely being more than ½” long. It’s light brown and can be readily distinguished from the German cockroach by the presence of two lighter bands running from one side to the other across the base of the wings and abdomen. They frequently populate the same buildings as the German cockroach. Females will produce about 14 egg capsules during their adult lives, each containing about 18 eggs. The brownbanded cockroach prefers feeding on starchy materials, however it can be found eating on almost anything.
